Have you ever been totally wrong about something? When I heard that Disney was making a movie loosely based on Mickey’s Fantasia, I predicted that it would be a dud (especially given Nicolas Cage’s recent box office letdowns). Tonight I was proven wrong, and I am now eating a big plate of crow. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice isn’t the best movie that I’ve ever seen, but it is definitely now toward the top of my list, and I would recommend that you rent it. Watch this short video trailer and see if it wets your appetite:
As anticipated, this movie is packed with action, but I wasn’t anticipating such great humor. I instantly recognized the hilarious lead star Jay Baruchel, but not by his face. He did the voice of “Hickup” in the hit Dreamworks animation,“How to Train Your Dragon” (one of my favorite movies). In both movies he had me in stitches.
The plot is fairly strong, balanced by great special effects, and plenty of humor. I really like how the writer’s built the story around real science.
