Travel to Lofoten Islands, Norway

The Lofoten Islands, in the north of Norway, is perhaps the most beautiful place on earth. If you’ve never heard of this heaven-on-earth, check out the Google map below to see where you need to plan your next trip:

Driving along the island is like stepping into a fantasy book. As a former professional photographer I kept rubbing my eyes in disbelief.

It isn’t easy to get to the Lofoten Islands, but that’s why it is such a magical place…not too many tourists! You can fly into the Bodø Airport and rent a car to drive to the island. Make sure that you book a place to stay prior to your arrival, or you may find yourself without a place to stay. I really searched before picking a “hotel”. My wife and I discovered the “Reine Rorbuer“, a breathtaking set of cottages situated on the Reinefjorden in the quaint village of Reine.

Here are a few photos, courtesy of Reine Rorbuer and Norten Andvig:

We spent much of our time exploring the rocky coasts, photographing the mountains, hiking, taking fishing excursions, and just relaxing in our little red cottage.

I was shocked to see that the clear sea water looks like water from the tropics:

Great! It is definitely worth going! Before you go, let me know & I’ll share some other Norway destinations worth while…getting to Lofoten is really fun and beautiful. What are some of your favorite European destinations?

I’m so happy to have poked around your site. I was entering a contest you have up, and saw a picture of Prague. Well we just went to Prague in March and LOVED it. So I decided to look around and see if you had any travel blogging up and you do have these fantastic pictures. We’ve been considering a Oslo/Malmo/Copenhagen kind of trip for awhile, but may well consider adding/substituting these islands to our itinerary. I don’t think our trip this year will be to this area, but the one after most likely will be, and I love finding and soaking up any information I can about the area.

I imagine living in Scotland gave you a great one-up on European travel since it’s so inexpensive to hop a flight just about anywhere in Europe once you are there. We’re leaning very heavily towards Venice for our trip this year, though we do have an Amsterdam vote that may weigh in significantly since it’s from our son who is here for his last year before college.

I’d love to see any travel blogging you do, and will check back regularly!

      Rosey,

I’m glad you found my blog! You love traveling just like me!! Yes, Prague is amazing, and so is Norway. One place to add to your itinerary would be a valley called Numedal in Norway. My ancestors are from there, and it’s my wife’s favorite place in the world. Very magical! And yes, Thailand and Cambodia should be at the top of your list: great hotels, great service, great food, tropical weather, smiles everywhere, and very cheap. If you’re subscribed, then you’ll definitely see my upcoming travel reviews!
