Several years ago I was on a business trip in White Fish, Montana. My business partner and I were staying in the Kandahar Lodge (Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort) and we decided to indulge in a little higher-end ice cream. Prior to that night I was more of a quantity ice cream eater, rather than a quality ice cream eater (as a result of being the youngest of 10 children, I guess).
As my eyes scoured the grocery store freezers, they suddenly zeroed in on a small carton of Häagen-Dazs® White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle ice cream. I like white chocolate. I like Raspberry. I like chocolate truffles. It sounded like a reasonable flavor combination. I got back to the hotel room, popped on a travel DVD, and then dipped my spoon into the carton. Have you ever had one of those experiences where time seems to slow down and your life flashes before your eyes? Well this wasn’t one of them, but it was pretty darn close!
It’s very hard to describe the beautiful marriage of flavors that made this my favorite commercial ice cream. The high quality frozen cream instantly melts on your tongue, followed by the tingling raspberry ribbon. If you savor a spoonful long enough, the bits of chocolate truffle will finally melt and release their heavenly flavor. When I moved to southern Virginia, I was disappointed to discover that no store within 100 miles carries this flavor of Häagen-Dazs® ice cream, so I always go way out of my way to find it when I am traveling out of town. This may sound crazy, but I can tell you most of the stores that carry this flavor of ice cream in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina! If you go to the Häagen-Dazs® website, you’ll find their “flavor finder” tool, which allows you to search all your neighboring grocery stores for a specific flavor. It’s pretty cool!
If this ice cream isn’t in heaven, then after I die, I’ll have to find somewhere else to live. But I’m pretty sure that it’s made by angels, so all I have to worry about is getting to heaven. What are some of your favorite ice cream brands & flavors? Please share your comments below!
