Hi, I’m Josh Farnsworth, and I’m a Maven! What’s a “Maven” anyway?
Wikipedia defines a Maven as “a trusted expert in a particular field, who seeks to pass knowledge on to others.”
I don’t necessarily consider myself to be an expert in many fields, but all throughout my life people have pointed out that I’m very different from most people. One trait that stands out like a sore thumb is my “mavenism”. People have always told me that I love to research, I love to buy, and I love to try. But most of all, they point out that I love to tell others about my discoveries! I just can’t keep my mouth shut when I find something that I love!
It’s true, I’m passionate about finding products, services, or travel destinations that stand above the rest, and I feel compelled to tell others. I light up and I rattle a million words per minute.
Some good friends were visiting, and as I began raving about a certain backpack that a company had given me to try out, they said “Josh, you’re a Maven…and a Connector!” I looked at them in confusion. Then they began to tell me about a book they were reading, called “The Tipping Point” by Malcom Gladwell.
I felt compelled to find out more about what they meant when they called me a Maven and a Connector, so I purchased the unabridged audiobook and listened to it over the course of a few weeks. I felt so happy to finally have a name for my personality traits! I’m a Maven! I’m also a Connector, or someone who constantly builds a network of friends & acquaintances in order to share my amazing discoveries.
So my purpose with this blog is to spill out all the research and experience I’ve accumulated in different areas to save money and heartache. I also want to reward businesses who provide outstanding value to their customers. My goal is to add 100,000 subscribers to this blog in 2011, so we can transform the way the world does business!
I live in Southern Virginia and am the husband of a beautiful gal & the father of two amazing little boys. I’ve worked as a professional photographer, journalist, importer, real estate investor, and merchandise man. I guess you could say that this blog is a smorgasbord of all my passions!
